Welcome to BecomeTheBest.com, the companion site for Mr. Gretz's classes at Stephen T. Badin High School.

This page is for parents and students of the Programming and Applied Technology 2 class. What can you expect for the coming semester?

Typical Week: Lecture on Tuesday-Thursday; Labs on Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

Initially, we'll be reviewing and reinforcing the skills learned last year. Photoshop will be a primary study focus for us first semester. Writing custom Javascripts, creating documents with Adobe Acrobat, and optimizing sites for Google and other search engines. Video content on sites will also be a critical component of our learning. You'll be building sites optimized for mobile computing, a new and fast-growing component of web design.

You will be each mentoring several 1st-year students.

New this year will be independent study projects wherein you will bring new innovations, tools, and features to the Badin site!

My goal this year is to provide you with technology skills to become the best at whatever you dare to be!

Week 1 - 8/22/08

Today, the following topics will be addressed:

Your seating assignment
Fire drill procedures
Class expectations and rules; information to include on all web pages and projects.
Badin's "Responsible Use of Technology" Policy.

Week 2 - 8/25/08

Full week planned. You should accomplish all of the following by EOC Friday:

All of last year's work should be placed in a single archival folder on your Badin server drive.
Delete all content from your remote server drive.
Create an "images" folder on your remote server.
Email me your Google account information.
Set up Dreamweaver.
Set up Firefox with necessary add-ons. Error-checking of online content, and Web Developer are both required.
New this year - Safari. Another browser to check our sites against!
Some Badin work to unlock rusty minds ;-)
Create a new home page.
- Demonstrate what you learned last year, particularly incorporating aspects of attractive design and accessability.
- Home page should be named "default.asp". Unless otherwise specified, all pages you create should support ASP.
- Create folders, pages, and links for Assignments and In-class work. When available, add links to your assigned 1st-year students.

We'll also have one day of lecture this week, where I'll discuss plans for the class this year, and we'll start Photoshop!
